Musicology and improvisation: think twice...

The Orgelpark Research Program is a series of organ-art related musicological projects. The first project (2008-2011) focused on the Art of Improvisation.

Improvisation is a specific and intriguing way of making music spontaneously. Organ improvisation, or, to be less specific, improvisation involving the organ, has become an art in itself during the last few decades. No longer related to religion per se, it increasingly reflects developments in several different contemporary music scenes and, hence, musicological scenes. In 2012, Orgelpark Research will publish a series of e-books including a selection of papers that were presented during the three symposia the Orgelpark organized in 2009, 2010 and 2011.

Based on the Improvisation Project, the next project will be Talking Music, focusing on (re)thinking music-making and music-reviewing. What does a musician do when he or she makes music? What does a listener experience during music? Research themes include:
- Improvisation
- Real Time Analysis
- What is music-making?
- What is listening?
- Reviewing music
