Goden, Demonen & Heiligen

horn ensemble Capricorno led by Herman Jeurissen

Geerten van de Wetering, organ

Composer Richard Wagner initially started from the musical legacy of Carl Maria von Weber, the father of German opera, but gradually created a completely new musical language, in which 'die Kunst des Übergangs' formed the basis of his infinite melodies. Devout Catholic composers such as Bruckner and César Franck adopted his musical idiom, but kept a distance from Wagner's controversial political and philosophical ideas. Richard Strauss adored both Mozart and Wagner and sought a synthesis. He often took the myths of classical antiquity as the basis for his operas.

Works by Carl Maria von Weber, Richard Wagner, Anton Bruckner, Richard Strauss and César Franck in arrangements for horn ensemble and organ by Herman Jeurissen.
