A study afternoon will explore the life and work of Jan Zwart, who introduced the organ to a large group of music lovers in the early 20th century through live radio broadcasts. Throughout this process, he consistently emphasized the rich heritage left by Dutch composers like Sweelinck and Van Noordt. In line with this, he composed extensive music for choir: this aspect of his work will be the focus of this afternoon's session. The colloquium follows on from last fall's colloquium, held on October 11th. Participants will include Frits Zwart, author of a comprehensive study of Jan Zwart's life and work, the Chorale Haganum choir (conducted by Daniël Rouwkema), and organist Jaap Zwart. Jan Zwart himself will also perform live: using original recordings, composer Kasia Szwed created computer files that make Zwart's playing reproducible for the Orgelpark's hyper-organ.
