Colloquium: Sarah Davachi

Today's colloquium is dedicated to the Canadian artist, musician, performer, composer, researcher Sarah Davachi. She is one of the leading explorers among the growing group of young artists that discover organ sound as the perfect building block for their works; looking for something different, livelier, directer than the omnipresent loudspreaker sound. Davachi shares her insights and gives a concert.

Sarah Davachi: 'The colloquium will begin with a presentation of my doctoral research in critical organology, an introduction to my dissertation project From the Ruins of the Literal: Critical Organology, Timbre, and the Poetics of Affect, and how my research connects with my work as a composer-performer of the organ.  In particular, we'll explore the dialogic relationship between instrument and performer, the significance of tuning in relation to harmony, and the emergent aspect of timbre as it relates to its myriad constituent parts.  This talk will include some time for questions and audience discussion.  Following this, I will present a full concert of my selected organ works, including new and old compositions, with a particular emphasis on the Van Straten organ.'

The colloquium is in English. There will be time to ask questions.
