Deep Listening Workshop

Deep Listening Day – 2 May 2026, Orgelpark Amsterdam The Orgelpark presents a day dedicated to Deep Listening, developed from the practice and theory of Pauline Oliveros. The American composer, who initially gained fame in the New York electronic music scene, developed listening practices that center on meditation, breathing, and mindfulness. The Deep Listening day at the Orgelpark focuses on an open, inclusive way of listening. You can participate as a listener in the Deep Listening workshop. You will also hear the installation performance "The Infinite Garden." The closing concert program features works by Pauline Oliveros and her lifelong partner, lone. 

 

As part of Deep Listening Day, the Orgelpark opens its doors for an immersive workshop led by Kristin Norderval.

Norderval worked in close collaboration with Pauline Oliveros and was a member of her ensemble "New Circle Five", contributing to the development and transmission of Deep Listening practice internationally. She is widely recognized as a pioneering vocalist and electronic musician, known for her embodied and exploratory approach to sound.

This 2-hour Deep Listening workshop focuses on the interplay between Focal Listening and Global Listening. Through guided exercises, participants will explore different modes of attention: from entering deeply into the inner life of a single sound, to opening awareness toward the full sonic environment.

The workshop combines listening meditations, vocal and bodily awareness practices, and simple collective exercises. It is open to everyone, regardless of prior experience.

Please wear comfortable clothes. Participants may be invited to sit or lie on the floor during parts of the session.
