Recorder consort The Royal Wind Music with minimal music and 16th-century masterful ornamentation. The age-old charm of the popular melodies from the 16th century and the innovative simplicity of minimal music seem to have little in common at first glance. Yet there appears to be a remarkable musical similarity between these two eras. From the danceable folk melodies and the recognizable (earworm-worthy) chansons of the Renaissance to the repetitive rhythms of the minimalist composers from the late 20th century, both styles share a fascination for simplicity, repetition and the power of subtle variations. The thirteen-member recorder consort performs a minimal work by Raivis Misjuns for recorder consort and organ. In addition, the Royal Wind Music presents an improvisation inspired by minimal music techniques, in which the audience plays a decisive role.
