Oerknal, (large) ensemble for new music, presents compositions by Ashkan Behzadi and Eden Londsdaler.
Oerknal presents a diptych of two large-scale works, created from the unique musical worlds of two composers. The work of Ashkan Behzadi is characterized by a lively multitude of color and dynamics. Behzadi moves effortlessly between different genres. Fables is an impressive clarinet concerto, written for Oerknal and his clarinetist Daniel Boeke. The composition tacks between wildly virtuoso passages, sections with refined, pointillist details and moments of expansive tranquility. Constellations, a compelling 45-minute work for spatially divided ensemble and organ, premiered during the Gaudeamus Festival 2023 in Utrecht, performed by Oerknal. The piece unfolds in broad, kaleidoscopic phrases and slowly sways between different harmonies and sound worlds. The result is extremely refined music of a timeless and meditative character.
