The Bass Clarinet Festival is a recurring event that showcases the bass clarinet with contemporary music. The instrument can perform solos and accompaniments, and like a chameleon, it can blend with other instruments, vocals, or electronics—it's like a jukebox full of unusual sounds. The artistic directors and founders are bass clarinetists Fie Schouten and Tobias Klein. This afternoon, you'll hear bass clarinet(s) combined with organ. A particularly welcome guest is Silvia Castillo, organist and widow of Harry Sparnaay, the bass clarinetist who played a pioneering role in promoting "his" instrument.
